閻韋伶X世外桃源 Utopia 音樂特輯 fix me up + 浮光掠影 (by 閻韋伶 官方頻道)

This is pretty interesting – a behind the scenes clip of the video shoots for 2 songs from the new Yan Weiling and Utopia (閻韋伶X世外桃源) album, Dream Map.
Most of this is taken from the shoot for Fix Me Up, and if you understand Chinese, you will get more out of it than I did, especially with Olivia (Yan Weiling’s English name) explaining her feelings between her acting sequences.
I’m not gonna lie to you, she looks gorgeous. No words (Mandarin, English or otherwise) necessary! 😀

This is a shot of today’s Go Go Rise (美好前程) rehearsal with members of Cicada.
I think they are sitting in for part of the Go Go Rise show together this Thursday, Nov. 29 at Riverside Cafe in Taipei. Unusual (but very cool) to have such opposite style bands (pop/punk & gentle chamber pop) coming together to make music.
The other band on the Riverside bill is called Under The Moon.

Anniedora (安妮朵拉) announcing the pre-order for their debut album, Neverland (永無島). The album release is November 30th, and then they have a tour starting in December.
They posted on the Anniedora Facebook about needing string players to accompany them on stage. Any fiddlers or cellists out there need a gig? =D
You can hear snippets from all the songs at Annie’s YouTube.

Hi there, I love the blog! Would you happen to know any other good indie Chinese blogs? I can’t read very much Chinese so finding new music and movies that aren’t pop is really hard for me.

Hi there, Julie (wigdoodles) I’m glad you found the blog!

Here are a few sites that post very cool indie things:
Alternative China
Beijing Daze
eastimpressions
Layabozi
Sino Australian Music Exchange

I’m sure I’ve left a few good sites out, but those cover a wide range, from really raw & noisy to beautiful.
Another great resource is the facebook pages of the bands; the Taiwan indies are relentless about keeping the fans informed, and also for plugging their fellow bands, which is cool. (Mainland China bands are not really using facebook, but 3 of the sites I listed are concentrated on China)
One last tip: use Google Chrome for browsing the facebook pages, because at least there’s a decent chance for getting a translation. Facebook uses Bing, and Chrome is, of course, Google translate.

p.s. Beautiful artwork on your site! 😀

2012全聯「我的夢想」系列廣告 – Gonzo篇 (by pxmartchannel)

GONZO, the band that puts the Grrrrrr in girl rock! Truly, they are a little crazier than the usual rockers. Their promo clips are as off the wall as any J-indie rockers are. =D
This is apparently from the “My Dream” ad campaign for Trans Union. I think the song is called Smelly Bitch, from their next album.

alternativechina: NAOHAI NAOHAI EP Naohai is the first work released by the homonymous band. Naohai started in 2010 as a fan band of Nezha, the early name of The Gar, formed by Zhao Shuang(drums), Chen Hao (bass), and Qi Jinlong (guitar and vocals). In 2011 they successfully joined Shanghai’s rock circuit, playing on many shows where they established as a band with a solid style, seriously […]

Ultra-Violet 紫外線樂團 – 01 傳說 (by David Rosales)

Prog/Metal from Taiwan: UltraViolet (紫外線 樂團), with the powerful song Legend (傳說) from their 2012 ep, 樓蘭‧旅湖幽城 (The Loulan ‧ Lvhuyoucheng (Loulan – Journey Lake Quiet City)). You can hear the other songs from UV over at Reverbnation.

This is UltraViolet (紫外線 樂團) from Taiwan. They play hard rock/metal, and they released an ep earlier this year, 樓蘭‧旅湖幽城 (The Loulan ‧ Lvhuyoucheng). They have a gig tonight at The Wall Live House, on a bill with Renaissance (文藝復興) and After Quiet. (EP release show for Renaissance, a gothic metal band.)
The members are (nicknames) ‘Little Angel’ (voc), Emma (keys), ‘Armitage’ (bass), ‘Pole’ (drums) and ‘Pooh’ (guitar).
I think Emma and Armitage are sisters. Armitage has YouTube channel for her bass covers, as well as a few UltraViolet band rehearsals.

As usual, if anyone out there has better info about the band, please let me know!
