We interrupt Emily’s hard day of work at the music store for a some fun… =D

This cute song was done by her friends Lele & Dandan for a contest. I think it is a compilation album to promote Taipei…?
You can hear all the entrees and vote for your favorite HERE. Lele’s song is #60

hm… I think yesterday was the last day to vote, but you can still hear the entrees, a wide variety of styles! I suggest going to the kptaipei Soundcloud.
I don’t know how many songs will be included in the final product.

Tomorrow at 8
“Not in the mood for another long day of festival madness? But still looking to dip out of Gulou? Then Tangzhou’s the answer. A slew of new bands are strutting their stuff at the increasingly welcoming DMC space – including math rock instrumental outfit Mammals, hardcore punk duo Fake Weed, and pop rocks Lost in Space. New scenery, new tunes and 10 yuan beer – what could possibly go wrong? 30 RMB”

I like the band names on the poster: Fake Weed, Mammals, and Lost In space. =D

Chock Ma 戳麻 from Hong Kong.
From my limited listening, this seems about in the middle of their range between soft to metallic post rock. I think that is Erhu being played as the melodic instrument.
Plenty more to hear back at SoundCloud. They have some very heavy songs from a few years ago, gruff & growly vocals. They may have mellowed slightly over the last few years, LOL.

My friend just turned me on to HK band Chock Ma 戳麻, which she describes as a unique blend of post rock, metal, and traditional chinese music. They’re damn good! Check out their YouTube channel and recent album on iTunes.

Hiya!    I found their fb:  Chock Ma 戳麻, listening to them on their SoundCloud, atm. That description is accurate, a blend of post rock with Erhu as featured melody instrument. Really cool!

Chock Ma are playing the StreetVoice Park Park Carnival this weekend.

Thank you for the tip!  =D

More info from doufuhua: They are also playing at the Giligulu CD Compilation release party Sept 13 at the Fringe Club. Today is the last day to support the Giligulu HK indies project on Indiegogo. (I actually gave a very small donation to this, heh)

Hey! Sorry to bug you, but I’m trying to get the word out about a 7″ record that I’m releasing for Taiwan’s TOUMING MAGAZINE. Any help would be appreciated! More info on the record is available on my tumblr page. Thanks!

Hi there!  I’m happy to help. =D

I didn’t realize Touming Magazine were still active. Hom Shenhao has been concentrating on solo stuff, as far as I know. I wonder if this is connected with his upcoming Japan tour? (Okay, I see a similar promo on his site)

phatnphunky: Taiwan’s post-punk group Touming Magazine is preparing a two-song release via Phat ‘n’ Phunky Records. Side A is “Touming Magazine Forever” and side B is “Sexual Hell.” The release is out September 5 and pre-orders are HERE
