時事:蘇迪勒給音樂祭上的一課 – Blow 吹音樂

Blow Media with a recap of Heart Town Festival, with thoughts about what to do next year.  They note many other similar big outdoor music festivals over the years, both in TW and abroad, that have faced weather challenges and cancelations.

Without knowing any particulars of the Heart Town finances, one would imagine they promised the international acts a guaranteed fee for performance, so I’m sure they wanted to get in as much of the event as possible so they didn’t go broke. The Blow article mentions insurance, and I wonder how much it would cost to insure something like Fuji Rock or Heart Town during typhoon season.

One thing that caught my eye was that Random 隨性樂團 actually played a 2nd set on Day 2, to fill in time because of a vacancy on one of the stages.  I think what happened is they played on Sunday, and then again on Monday, on the main stage. (You can see at the Random fb photos from 2 stages – 2 days) Way to go, Random 隨性!  =D

WOW, 山海屯音樂節 Heart Town Festival had so many things go wrong, yet worked so hard (in cooperation with bands, staff, fans, etc.) to overcome difficulty, only to have the biggest invited act come in and act like that…

Reading the comments about the band on fb, there are a lot of words & phrases I’ve never seen Google/Bing try to translate. 0_0

Let’s just say, the reviews are not good.

New Soul Live Box with 88balaz (八十八顆芭樂籽).  The band posted that both their HeartTown and Summer Super Slippa set times have been changed, due to the incoming typhoon.  I guess with student-aged fans being out of school, this is not too-too inconvenient for local peeps. But if you’re from way out of town, or bought your high-speed rail tix already, what a drag.

But whaddygonnado, it’s the weather.  *shrugs*

UPDATE: Here are the new schedule grids for HeartTown 山海屯音樂節.  You can see how they crammed in all of the Friday bands into Sat & Sun. The festival days will start earlier, and the set lengths on the smallest stage (the orange column) are only 20 minutes.  In fact, most sets except for the headliners have lost 10 minutes.  Many bands will time their set during rehearsal, choosing their strongest material, trying to progress from song to song without a hitch. Now they’ll all have to lop off ten minutes. (And eliminate chatty MC time with the audience!  =p )

HeartTown festival is adjusting their schedule to avoid problems within the typhoon. Merging all of the Friday sets into Saturday & Sunday, something like that. Also adjusting set times and lengths. If you’re attending, you probably can also read the announcement and will understand what’s going to happen much better than I do!  They’ve answered MANY questions at that page.

In other band-typhoon news, Cicada announced they’re canceling Friday’s gig at Witch House. Their next show is at Kafka on September 19th.

柯智棠 Ko Chih Tang postponed his weekend gigs in Kaohsiung and Taitung to September.

The Astro Bunny / Yi-Cheng Yi-Ching show at APA mini is still on for Friday, but the final decision will be made tomorrow. It’s already tomorrow, and the gig is postponed all the way to January, date to be determined.  (JANUARY?!)

Zulin Wu postponed his Friday gig until next Thursday.

Chocolate Tiger’s Super Summer Slippa Saturday gig is pushed back to Monday. As a matter of fact, all of the Friday/Saturday Slippa shows are now on Sunday/Monday.   More info HERE!

And the Taipei Times has a story in English about the re-jiggered HeartTown festival as well as how they moved the location to a bigger venue this year, after landing Limp Bizkit as a headliner.

88balaz (八十八顆芭樂籽) have 2 gigs this weekend that are postponed by a day or so.

ANN just postponed her Saturday gig until next week, but she has other events in her immediate future.

@tradchinesechars noted that, “Depending on the wind speeds of the typhoon, the high speed rail (and regular trains) may not be running. It’s safer for everyone to reschedule.”

I’m surprised that I’m still reading bands (U.TA 屋塔 and Taipei Cases 台北公案 at Revolver Bar) posting they are going to play tonight, ‘rain or shine’ (Friday). There will be bands set up with no one there to watch them play, and elsewhere, people showing up to find closed venues.  I agree it would be best to just put a big X through Friday.

Team Ear just announced that The White Eyes 白目樂團 gig at Revolver Bar on Saturday is canceled.
