Yuran Media team up with aNueNue – 洪安妮 Annie Hung performs one of her lovely songs with an Anuenue M100 Fly Bird from aNueNue.  =D

Annie also posted a new spiritual demo today to StreetVoice, check it out!

Funny, after seeing the Astro Bunny behind the scenes at Yuran visit, now I’m wondering where the Yuran x aNueNue video series is filmed, with this white background?

Flowing Waters

thruoutin:

“The Shenqi Mipu connects it with Tai Mountain in Shandong and the story of Boya, famous player of antiquity, and Ziqi, the woodcutter who was the only one to recognize his evocation of nature in playing High Mountains Flowing Streams. When Ziqi, the ideal listener, passed away, Boya broke his qin, never to play again.

Recorded by thruoutin, Beijing, 2015″

Earlier this summer Carolyn Chen who plays the Guqin came over and did some recordings.

We we’re also lucky enough to set up a small performance while she was in town.

Please have a listen:

That was a beautiful piece!    Very delicate touch  =D

Flowing Waters

This set starts out fine, but spirals down into chaos towards the end, LOL

The Last Wave 最後大浪 is an instrumental reggae-influenced trio AND a store (silkscreen printing, magazine, blog?) run by the guitarist in Kaohsiung.  If you go to their web site, there’s very little about the band, and a lot about the business. They don’t seem to have a facebook, and I couldn’t find the members’ names.

Took me a while to figure out that the guitarist has his fx pedals mounted in a suitcase (not on the floor), which is kinda handy to avoid bending over constantly to change settings and manipulate echoes or what have you.  Never saw anybody do it this way.  =D

Anyway, by the end of the set, he’s invited other guitarists (from the headliner, Sorry Youth 拍謝少年, I guess?) up to play. Everyone is having fun, it seems.

The bass player looks a bit bemused at the antics. (not to mention the fact that a drum stick came flying out and hitting her in the head at around 25 minutes in. That was weird.) 0_0

Closer look at the pedal-suitcase:

牛角 is a great channel for full-set videos, lots of post-rock kinda thing on his YT.

Found another live clip from earlier this fall, with a different bass player, and a dude playing some squeaky reed-horn thing. And you’ll notice the fx pedals are not yet mounted in the suitcase, but are still up at table level.  =D:

[Meta]Hong Kong’s indie music scene – can it transcend cultural and linguistic barriers? • /r/HKM

Really interesting article about the HK scene & Clockenflap. Also includes discussion of the dearth of live music venues.  Hate to see what would happen if Hidden Agenda ever closed.

Read thru the comments as well – observations from musicians.

@pointofgravity has a lot of great HK content over there!

Here’s a live clip, (multi-camera shot, maybe this was recorded off tv or the live stream):

The ending of the song was slightly cut off, but the quality is so much better than the other clip I saw of the same song, the sound on this is powerful!

Haka Fongma has 6 more uploaded, I think it’s her entire set.

Keyboards: 何秉舜 Hobing|Drums: Stephane S. Wong|Bass: CM Groovy|Guitar: Soni@gdjyb|Chorus: Soft@gdjyb

Bonus clip from HOCC’s Reimagine HK concert in August, with brother Harris Ho (Hobing) on keys, and Soni on guitar. Same YT channel as above!

Denise seems to be doing a bunch of things under the Reimagine HK umbrella, including a Christmas weekend event.

電幻造夢之旅 – 陳惠婷《成人世界》 – Blow 吹音樂

蔡依玲 Elaine and her band (EG-阿宏, Drum-大冠) at Tiehua Music Village on Saturday, opening for Gigantic Roar 巨大的轟鳴.

I really like her voice and songs, but the sound is so thin with no bass player between the guitars-drums. Well, that’s kinda my pet peeve: bands with no bass player. If you just have hand percussion/cajon & acoustic guitars, then fine, no bass player needed. But if your live arrangement includes drum kit & electric guitar, it’s gotta have some kind of bass happening, *even bass pedals:

Not that it’s any of my business, but there’s gotta be plenty of young bassists in Kaohsiung who would like to join a band. =)

Taiwan Indie Music has full sets of both bands posted. That is a great channel for Tiehua music, he seems to upload every event, from the little coffeehouse acoustic nights to the big traveling bands from Kaohsiung, Taipei, etc..

*that’s me (gtr+bass pedals) and my friend Jeff on drums.  Not to get completely off-topic, but there is a band called Animals As Leaders, with a drummer and 2 guys playing 8-string guitars. A rare case where even a heavy band can get away with no bass player, and yo, those guys are insanely talented.

一個籮筐的討厭鬼來囉!實體專輯充滿鬼點子巧思 – Blow 吹音樂

All this time, and it never occurred to me that Kaiting’s nickname ‘Tif’ is short for Tiffany. Tiffany Chang 張凱婷 is how she is listed in the credits on the new Felix Felicis 小福氣 album, 一個籮筐的討厭鬼.  =D

So does this mean her brother Kaixiang’s nickname ‘Tell’ is short for Telephone? Telefony? o.0

I desperately need sleep…
